COME AS A STRANGER, LEAVE AS A FRIEND.

Discover the Bothy's distinctive and authentic experiences available to your guests.

Step into the heart of one of Scotland's most remote and beautiful glens and discover a new destination for food, drink and adventure.

If your clients are seeking a distillery tour and whisky tasting experience, consider The Bothy Distillery in Glen Prosen.

We are an award-winning producer of handcrafted Scottish spirits rooted in the landscapes, heritage and stories of the north-east of Scotland.

Our spirits are produced within the Angus area, drawing inspiration from the character of the region and its strong connection to land, people and place, including the wild surroundings of the Cairngorms National Park.

Set along a historic whisky smuggling route, our brand-new working distillery offers a whisky-led experience, including insight into the production of Glen Prosen Highland Single Malt, alongside tailored private and seasonal experiences.

Ideal for FIT and small groups.

  • DISTILLERY TOUR

This relaxed, introductory experience offers a true sense of place, history and purpose; exploring a landscape that once concealed illicit distilling, and how we are now bringing legal distilling back to the glen for the first time in centuries.

Guided through the distillery, you’ll discover our approach to crafting spirit, the beginnings of our Highland Single Malt journey, and the character that defines Glen Prosen itself. The experience concludes with a guided tasting, including a dram of our Gunshot blended whisky.

  • PREMIUM DISTILLERY TOUR

Step beyond the ordinary, and immerse yourself in the story of Glen Prosen, a remote Highland glen steeped in whisky smuggling history which is now home to Bothy Distillery.

Your experience begins in our private tasting room, looking out at the glen, with a freshly baked scone, Bothy jam, cream and a hot drink. As you settle in, enjoy a tasting of one of our award-winning liqueurs and discover the remarkable Jam to Dram journey that transformed a family preserves business into Scotland’s newest distillery.

From there, travel back to a time when whisky was distilled in secret amongst the hills and corries of the Angus Glens. Explore the fascinating history of the smugglers and illicit stills that once operated along this famous route, accompanied by a dram that captures the spirit of Scotland’s whisky-making past.

Learn about our approach to spirit-making, our vision for Highland Single Malt whisky, and the character of the landscape that shapes everything we create.

The journey continues with a tasting of our new make spirit, offering a rare opportunity to experience the foundations of our future whisky before concluding back in the Visitor Centre with a final dram and time to reflect on the flavours, stories and heritage of this extraordinary glen.

A truly immersive experience that brings together history, hospitality and Highland spirit in one unforgettable visit.

  • 'TASTE OF THE GLENS' GUIDED WHISKY TASTING

Embark on a guided journey exploring the distinct character and flavours of local Highland whisky, with our Taste of the Glens tasting flight.

Explore four distinctive drams, from the rich Highland character of Fettercairn 12 and the sherry sweetness of Glencadam PX Reserve, to our own private cask selection Aberlour 12 and our signature Bothy Gunshot Blend.

Led by one of our whisky hosts, this relaxed and engaging experience uncovers the stories, craftsmanship and unique tasting notes behind each dram.

  • THE SMUGGLERS TRAIL

    WITH STORIES OF STONE

Step back into the hidden history and natural heritage of Glen Prosen, as you follow the path once used by whisky smugglers moving illicit spirit through the glen.

Your experience begins at the distillery with coffee to take away, before setting off along the old smugglers’ path towards Old Craig. Along the way, geologist and storyteller Morag from Stories of Stone will bring the landscape to life, explaining how the glen was shaped over millions of years and how its natural features helped smugglers hide and transport whisky in secret.

Continuing along the path guests will learn more about the glen folk who resided here, before uncovering hidden bottles on the trail, discovering and tasting a featured Glen Prosen spirit. (This will include New Make Spirit if available, or an alternative whisky selection.) A small bottle discovered along the route becomes your keepsake sample to take home.

At the end of the trail, surrounded by Prosen's rugged hills, guests will pause for a Prosen Picnic — a small Highland picnic inspired by the simple provisions that travellers once carried through the glens, renamed to commemorate the old glen tradition. Enjoy fresh scones served with Bothy Butter and jam, alongside traditional oatcakes with heather honey and Highland crowdie cheese.

Returning to the distillery, the experience concludes with a dram of our Gunshot whisky, bringing the story full circle, from illicit spirit to the whisky we produce today.
